Dogs wag tails when they are ready to "interact" by playing, greeting, or fighting. Observe the rotation, speed, and tension of a tail to help you understand its significance.

A friendly tail wagging is a full-body wag with a flexible swinging of the tail from side to side. An unfriendly tail wag looks different. Before biting a child, a dog may display an unfriendly tail wag.
