Driver Arrested after DUI Crash in Monterey Park Claims Three Lives

A 28-year-old woman from Monterey Park found herself in police custody on suspicion of driving under the influence after a devastating rollover crash in a residential neighborhood. The incident, which occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Friday along Graves Avenue near Cecil Street, tragically resulted in the deaths of three people and left the driver and her 7-year-old daughter injured.

Desiree Perez faces serious charges including felony DUI, child endangerment, and three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter in connection with the crash, as confirmed by Monterey Park Police Capt. Bill Cuevas. She is currently held on $500,000 bail and is expected to appear in Alhambra Superior Court on Monday, according to jail records.

The crash involved a Jeep Cherokee carrying five individuals who were leaving a family residence. Although the destination was not specified, Monterey Park Police Chief Scott Wiese detailed that the Jeep was traveling westbound towards Garfield Avenue when it veered off course. The vehicle struck a curb, a tree, a wall, and three parked cars in front of a home.

Chief Wiese noted that one of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle during the collision, landing on the roof of a nearby house. Tragically, the three deceased individuals were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, contrasting with Perez and her daughter who were belted in. Despite sustaining minor injuries, Perez and her daughter were taken to the hospital for evaluation, with Cuevas mentioning that the daughter's hospital visit was precautionary.

Security footage captured the grim sequence of events, showing the Jeep already in a sideways roll along the sidewalk as it approached the residential property. The collision caused significant damage to three parked vehicles—a Toyota Camry, a Prius, and a Prius C—resulting in broken windows, one vehicle being landed upon, and another being totaled.

Twin Bridges Accident: Man Pinned Between Cars While Installing Chains on Highway 50

A quiet morning on Highway 50 turned dangerous when a driver fixing tire chains was seriously injured by a speeding vehicle near Twin Bridges. The Subaru had two teenage passengers, and CHP confirmed that all individuals involved remained at the scene until authorities arrived. Despite the severity of the crash, officials stated that the Subaru driver was not arrested or cited. The accident led to the closure of eastbound Highway 50 near Twin Bridges for approximately an hour as crews worked to clear the scene.
