DUI Driver Arrested After Hit-and-Run Injures Family on Bikes in Garden Grove

In a troubling incident on Sunday evening in Garden Grove, a suspected DUI driver was apprehended after colliding with a family riding bikes. The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. near Haster Street and Twin Tree Lane. The family, consisting of a 27-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, and their three children, were on electric bikes and pulling bike trailers when the incident transpired.

Emergency responders rushed all five victims to the hospital for treatment. According to Garden Grove Police Department, one adult and two children were in critical condition following the collision.

Eyewitnesses reported that a 2003 Toyota Camry fled the scene after striking the family. Fortunately, a vigilant bystander pursued the vehicle and alerted authorities, leading to a swift response by law enforcement. Police managed to intercept the Camry approximately 1.2 miles from the scene of the accident and detained the 29-year-old driver.

Traffic Investigator John Yergler confirmed that the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), following standard sobriety tests conducted during the traffic stop. At this time, the driver's identity has not been disclosed.

An afternoon traffic stop on I-80 in Loomis, Placer County, took a dangerous turn when a California Highway Patrol vehicle was struck by another car. Stockton Man Killed in San Joaquin County Crash on Interstate 5

A 30-year-old man from Stockton died in a tragic crash Sunday evening in San Joaquin County, according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident happened just after 6:00 p.m. on Interstate 5, south of Downing Avenue. Authorities said the SUV the man was driving veered off the east shoulder of the highway, slammed into a metal guardrail, then tumbled down a dirt embankment before becoming fully submerged in a nearby slough. Emergency crews from the Stockton Fire Department responded quickly and managed to pull the vehicle to shore. Sadly, the man was found deceased in the water by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office dive team. At this time, investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
