Fatal Vehicle Crash in Antioch Leaves One Dead and Another in Critical Condition

A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday evening in the City of Antioch, resulting in one fatality and leaving another individual in critical condition. The Antioch Police Department is currently investigating the incident that took place at approximately 5:40 pm at the intersection of W 4th Street and L Street.

Reports indicate that a collision transpired between a blue dirt bike and a van, with one person pinned under the vehicle and another requiring CPR. Despite the prompt request for a medical helicopter, Contra Costa County Fire sadly confirmed the death of one individual at the scene, while emergency responders attended to the critically injured person.

Eyewitnesses revealed that prior to the crash, the dirt bike operator had been recklessly maneuvering along Wilbur Ave, performing wheelies and speeding through the downtown area. The rider was accompanied by another individual on a quad.

At 6:05 pm, a medical helicopter was dispatched to Sutter Delta in Antioch to attend to the second person involved in the collision. Antioch PD issued a statement at 6:48 pm, urging motorists to avoid the area of W 4th and L Street due to the ongoing investigation.

Further details emerged at 9:00 pm, revealing that the dirt bike, operated by a 20-year-old male, was traveling southbound on L Street at a high speed, disregarding a stop sign at the intersection with W 4th Street. The collision occurred when the dirt bike collided with a white van entering the intersection, resulting in injuries to the 52-year-old male driver.

Upon arrival at the scene, Antioch PD officers administered life-saving measures to both parties, but unfortunately, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries. The van driver was rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Antioch Police Department Accident Investigators have taken over the investigation, although details such as the identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
