Los Angeles Firefighter Recruit Dies in Multi-Vehicle Crash
A devastating incident unfolded on Monday morning as a Los Angeles City firefighter recruit lost his life while assisting victims in a multi-vehicle collision on the 101 Freeway in Studio City.
The Los Angeles City Fire Department expressed their heartfelt condolences, saying, "We extend our deepest sympathy to the immediate family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Details regarding the memorial service will be shared as they become available." The department initiated a solemn procession at around 10 a.m., escorting the fallen firefighter recruit's body to the coroner's office.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway near Campo de Cahuenga, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The collision involved multiple vehicles, including one towing a portable toilet trailer. Following the incident, a SigAlert was issued at 5:30 a.m., leading to the closure of four lanes of traffic for investigation. Tragically, the firefighter succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity remains undisclosed, awaiting notification of family members.
A somber procession of fellow first responders made its way to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office. The firefighter's casket, draped in an American flag, was solemnly carried by members of his training class.
LAFD Public Information Officer Erik Scott shared his sentiments, saying, "At this point, our thoughts and prayers remain with the family during this difficult time. As we witnessed their tears, we are reminded of the bravery exhibited by our fallen colleague, as well as the courage demonstrated daily by all first responders who selflessly aid those in need."
Scott also revealed that the fallen recruit's father is a member of the department, though no further details were provided.
