King's County Collision Claims Life and Leaves Two Hospitalized

Early Sunday morning, tragedy struck on the roads, leaving one person dead and two others fighting for their lives, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 2:15 a.m., officers rushed to the scene near Avenal Cutoff Road, just south of 25th Avenue, following reports of a traffic collision.

Details revealed a heart-wrenching scenario: a 23-year-old Fresno man, driving a 2024 blue Chevrolet Malibu, veered across the center divide line on Avenal Cutoff Road, colliding head-on with a white 2016 Ford F-150. The investigation disclosed that the Ford pickup, operated by 51-year-old Victor Soto, Jr. of Visalia, was traveling southbound on Avenal Cutoff Road when the tragic collision occurred.

The impact was devastating. Soto, Jr. suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital by Skylife medical helicopter service. Tragically, the driver of the Malibu, whose identity has not been disclosed, succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene. The toll of the crash extended to 20-year-old Taeshon Ogan of Fresno, a passenger in the Malibu, who also sustained major injuries and was airlifted by a second Skylife helicopter to a different area hospital.

As authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the collision, questions linger. What prompted the Malibu driver to cross the center divide remains unknown, as does whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Driver in Critical Condition After Driving Off Overpass in Sacramento, California

A vehicle plunged off an overpass onto Interstate 5 in Sacramento’s Natomas area on Monday afternoon, leaving the driver in critical condition. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 12:52 p.m., near the offramp for West El Camino Avenue. The crash occurred while Kyman Jeung was driving northbound on I-5, heading home. He said the incident unfolded in what felt like slow motion, with the vehicle and debris falling onto the freeway just seconds ahead of him. Jeung had little time to react as he quickly maneuvered through the debris, including tree parts scattered across the road. Hours after the crash, locals noticed remnants of debris still on the overpass and in nearby tree branches. Sacramento Police confirmed the driver who fell from the overpass was the only person taken to the hospital. West El Camino Avenue was closed temporarily between Gateway Oaks Drive and Azevedo Drive while emergency crews worked at the scene. The road fully reopened around 3:15 p.m. Thankfully, no other drivers were injured, though Jeung expressed how fortunate he and others were that the vehicle didn’t land on them.
