Tragedy Strikes Bakersfield: Two Lives Lost in Two Accidents

According to Bakersfield Police Department Public Information Officer Eric Celedon, the toddler was not properly restrained in a car seat, which led to him being ejected from the vehicle. Sgt. Joshua Deutinger confirmed that the child was pronounced deceased at the scene by fire department personnel.

The boy’s identity has not been released, but a GoFundMe page has been created in his memory, identifying him as a 2-and-a-half-year-old who tragically lost his life in the crash.

Police reported that the collision involved a 24-year-old woman driving a red Honda sedan westbound and a red Chevy SUV traveling northbound. The male driver and female passenger of the SUV, both 26 years old, along with the driver of the Honda, were not injured in the crash. Authorities ruled out speed and impairment as factors in the accident. Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, but no arrests or charges have been made as the case remains under investigation.

Nearly five hours later, a second tragedy struck in south Bakersfield. At 1:09 a.m. on Sunday morning, the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of two pedestrians being struck by a vehicle on Highway 99 near Houghton Road.
