Tragedy Strikes Near Hollister: Three High School Students Killed in Shore Road Collision
Three Hollister High School students lost their lives in a devastating two-car collision on the evening of Jan. 14, just east of Highway 25 on Shore Road. A recent graduate of the school, who was also involved in the crash, remains in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.
The accident happened around 6:55 p.m. when the driver of a westbound vehicle lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with an eastbound car, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Tragically, the driver and two passengers in the westbound car were killed. A fourth passenger in the same vehicle and the sole occupant of the eastbound car suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Authorities have confirmed that one of the victims was 17 years old, but no names have been released. School officials identified the deceased as current Hollister High students and noted that the critically injured passenger is a former student.
In a letter sent to students and parents on Jan. 15, Principal Kevin Medeiros and Superintendent Dr. Shawn Tennenbaum expressed their condolences and assured the community that support is available on campus. The school’s Counseling and Wellness team, along with mental health clinicians, are providing assistance to anyone affected by the tragedy.
CHP is continuing to investigate the collision and has not determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors. Captain Noel Coady reminded drivers of the importance of obeying traffic laws, noting the profound consequences when they are ignored.
