Two Men Killed in Early Morning Bella Vista Highway 299 Crash

Early Thursday morning, a tragic accident on Highway 299 in Shasta County resulted in the deaths of two men. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was alerted to the collision via an iPhone crash notification at 2:17 a.m. and promptly responded to the scene near Bella Vista, at Blue Sky Road.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck overturned off the side of the road. Both the driver, identified as Leobardo Tapia Sosa, 30, and the passenger, Hector Miguel Gutierrez, 25, were found deceased. Both men were from McArthur, California. The Coroner’s Office has confirmed that next of kin have been notified and a post-mortem examination is scheduled.

According to CHP, the vehicle was likely traveling eastbound on Highway 299 when it collided with a guardrail and subsequently flipped over the Salt Creek Bridge. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office dispatched a Deputy Coroner Investigator to the scene at 3:15 a.m. for further investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest the driver was traveling at high speeds, estimated to be over 70 miles per hour. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the authorities.

Driver in Critical Condition After Driving Off Overpass in Sacramento, California

A vehicle plunged off an overpass onto Interstate 5 in Sacramento’s Natomas area on Monday afternoon, leaving the driver in critical condition. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 12:52 p.m., near the offramp for West El Camino Avenue. The crash occurred while Kyman Jeung was driving northbound on I-5, heading home. He said the incident unfolded in what felt like slow motion, with the vehicle and debris falling onto the freeway just seconds ahead of him. Jeung had little time to react as he quickly maneuvered through the debris, including tree parts scattered across the road. Hours after the crash, locals noticed remnants of debris still on the overpass and in nearby tree branches. Sacramento Police confirmed the driver who fell from the overpass was the only person taken to the hospital. West El Camino Avenue was closed temporarily between Gateway Oaks Drive and Azevedo Drive while emergency crews worked at the scene. The road fully reopened around 3:15 p.m. Thankfully, no other drivers were injured, though Jeung expressed how fortunate he and others were that the vehicle didn’t land on them.
