Multi-Car Crash Claims Life and Injures Child in Ceres

Two cars are damaged in a car accident on the side of the road.

A tragic car accident on Saturday afternoon in Ceres has resulted in the death of one man and left an 11-month-old child hospitalized. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the scene of the five-car crash around 1 p.m.

Authorities report that a 26-year-old man from Ceres died at the scene, while the infant, a passenger in a separate vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Four other individuals involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.

According to CHP, the incident began when the 26-year-old was driving east on Highway 132 near River Road. For reasons yet to be determined, he turned left, crossed over double yellow lines, and entered oncoming traffic. His car sideswiped another vehicle before colliding head-on with a third car. This third vehicle braked suddenly, causing a fourth car to rear-end it.

CHP is still investigating the crash and has not yet confirmed whether drugs or alcohol were factors. As part of their investigation, they closed Highway 132 between River Road and Gates Road, reopening it around 3:10 p.m.

In light of this incident, CHP is reminding parents and caregivers that children under two years old are required by law to be secured in a rear-facing car seat.

An afternoon traffic stop on I-80 in Loomis, Placer County, took a dangerous turn when a California Highway Patrol vehicle was struck by another car. As a result of the accident, eastbound lanes #2 and #3 on I-80 near Horseshoe Bar Road were closed as of early afternoon to allow first responders and investigators to manage the scene safely. Stockton Man Killed in San Joaquin County Crash on Interstate 5

A 30-year-old man from Stockton died in a tragic crash Sunday evening in San Joaquin County, according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident happened just after 6:00 p.m. on Interstate 5, south of Downing Avenue. Authorities said the SUV the man was driving veered off the east shoulder of the highway, slammed into a metal guardrail, then tumbled down a dirt embankment before becoming fully submerged in a nearby slough. Emergency crews from the Stockton Fire Department responded quickly and managed to pull the vehicle to shore. Sadly, the man was found deceased in the water by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office dive team. At this time, investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
