Tragic Bus Accident Claims Lives in Southern California

A devastating bus accident in Southern California has left at least eight to ten people dead and over three dozen injured. The incident occurred when a bus lost control while navigating a mountain road, collided with a car, flipped over, and crashed into a pickup truck.

According to California Highway Patrol spokesman Mario Lopez, the current death toll may rise as investigators begin the grim task of removing bodies from the wreckage. Some victims were ejected from the bus and covered with yellow blankets at the scene.

Lopez indicated that speed may have played a significant role in the crash, though authorities are still looking into whether mechanical failure or driver error contributed to the tragedy. Remarkably, the bus driver survived the incident, and authorities are working to confirm the passenger list.

The bus was operated by Scapadas Magicas LLC, a National City-based company that has a clean safety record over the past two years. The company did not respond to requests for comment.

Jordi Garcia, a manager for InterBus Tours, which organized the trip, stated that the bus departed Tijuana at 5 a.m. for a skiing day at Big Bear. He mentioned that preliminary information suggested the bus’s brakes had failed prior to the crash.

The accident took place around 6:30 p.m. on Route 38, a road that winds through the San Bernardino National Forest and leads to Big Bear. The bus, traveling south and leaving the forest, rear-ended a Saturn sedan before colliding with a Ford pickup. One person in the pickup sustained injuries, while details about those in the sedan remain unclear.

Patients with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening were transported to various hospitals. The scene was chaotic, with debris scattered across State Route 38, the bus overturned, and its front end severely damaged. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers on mountain roads, and the investigation is ongoing.

Driver in Critical Condition After Driving Off Overpass in Sacramento, California

A vehicle plunged off an overpass onto Interstate 5 in Sacramento’s Natomas area on Monday afternoon, leaving the driver in critical condition. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 12:52 p.m., near the offramp for West El Camino Avenue. The crash occurred while Kyman Jeung was driving northbound on I-5, heading home. He said the incident unfolded in what felt like slow motion, with the vehicle and debris falling onto the freeway just seconds ahead of him. Jeung had little time to react as he quickly maneuvered through the debris, including tree parts scattered across the road. Hours after the crash, locals noticed remnants of debris still on the overpass and in nearby tree branches. Sacramento Police confirmed the driver who fell from the overpass was the only person taken to the hospital.
