Tragic Collision in West Rancho Dominguez Claims Life of 9-Year-Old Boy

Frank Penney • June 26, 2024

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a collision involving a Metro bus and a car in West Rancho Dominguez has resulted in the death of a 9-year-old boy, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 10:25 a.m. Monday at Rosecrans Avenue and San Pedro Street, prompting a swift response from paramedics of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Four occupants of a Hyundai Elantra, including the boy, were critically injured and rushed to a hospital, while the bus driver received treatment for minor injuries, according to reports from the fire department and California Highway Patrol (CHP). CHP investigators disclosed that the Hyundai was driven by Rosa Corado, 41, of Los Angeles, with two women, ages 35 and 40, also as passengers.

"The juvenile succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital," stated the CHP in an official statement. The identity of the boy has been withheld pending notification of his relatives.

Authorities urge anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Officer J. Munoz at the CHP South Los Angeles Area Office at (424) 551-4000.

A big rig crash early Thursday morning in the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento County caused major traffic disruptions, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports. CHP responded around 6:25 a.m. to the scene at westbound Interstate 80 and Greenback Lane, where the crash had created a significant backup. The big rig, which had been traveling eastbound, veered through the center divide and collided with at least two other vehicles. While it was unclear whether anyone was seriously injured, three ambulances were seen leaving the scene, suggesting possible medical emergencies. Drivers in the area experienced delays as crews worked to clear the wreckage. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes while authorities managed the situation. A fatal crash on northbound Interstate 680 near Martinez took the life of a woman Monday morning when the vehicle she was in veered off the freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 10:32 a.m. when a white Dodge Caravan unexpectedly left the roadway just before the Marina Vista off-ramp. The impact was devastating. The female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The male driver, who suffered major injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities noted that neither occupant appeared to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage, causing significant traffic delays. By 11:50 a.m., three right-hand lanes remained closed, with no estimated time of reopening. By 1:20 p.m., only the far right lane was still blocked, and within 30 minutes, all lanes were back open. Despite the disruption on I-680, Marina Vista remained accessible for drivers seeking alternate routes into Martinez. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
