The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is delving into a double-fatal collision that shook Oroville on Tuesday, June 4, on Highway 70.
Around 10 a.m., CHP officers rushed to the Feather River Bridge, just north of Montgomery Street, following reports of a two-vehicle collision.
Preliminary findings indicate that a white Volkswagen CC, carrying two occupants, inexplicably halted on northbound Highway 70 atop the bridge. Simultaneously, a red Ram pickup truck, driven by Elijah Kinser of Oroville, was barreling north at 65 mph. Unfortunately, Kinser failed to detect the stationary Volkswagen ahead, leading to a rear-end collision. Tragically, the impact proved fatal for the Volkswagen's driver, while the passenger initially received critical care but later succumbed to their injuries. Kinser sustained minor injuries in the ordeal.
The CHP's on-site analysis suggests that neither the Volkswagen's driver nor its passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.
If you possess any pertinent information concerning this tragic event, kindly reach out to CHP Dispatch at 530-332-1200, referencing Log 240604CH0039. The identities of the Volkswagen's occupants will remain undisclosed until their next of kin have been notified.
