A violent car accident near Highway 50 and Prairie City Road in Folsom on Sunday left three people injured — including a 5-year-old girl — after one car caught fire and ignited a grass fire along the highway shoulder.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, a 66-year-old man reportedly suffered a medical emergency while driving, causing him to clip the back of a Subaru occupied by a parent and young child.
The impact sent the Subaru off the right shoulder and into trees, where it caught fire and sparked a grass fire along Highway 50. The man's vehicle overturned on its roof. Firefighters extricated him and transported him to the hospital with a broken sternum. The 5-year-old sustained minor back pain but is expected to recover. CHP reported that the Lexus had been observed driving recklessly prior to the collision. At least two victims were taken to UC Davis Medical Center.
